Building their Bounce: Strategies to support Employee Resilience

Program:

Resilience is defined as the ability to recover or “bounce back” from risk and adversity. Whether these challenges come from personal or professional situations, employees need knowledge and skills that support their resilience. The science behind resilience theory offers hope and promise, emphasizing that each of us has the capacity to strengthen our own and our team members’ resilience. Come learn simple tips and tools to take back to your team that will begin to foster a culture of resilience.

Employers strive to create environments where employees feel supported, challenged, effective and happy. Organizations that foster a culture of resilience create these kinds of settings by acknowledging challenges and working together to collaborate, problem-solve, and lean on each team member’s unique strengths to find solutions. Devereux’s Adult Resilient Initiative offers a framework to help organizations and their leaders understand the importance of promoting a culture of resilience through focusing on both the resilience of every employee and helping leaders understand how to manage their teams in resilient ways. Research-based, self-reflective assessments are used to provide individuals with valuable information about their personal resilience and their resilient leadership skills. Data from these reflective tools is used to support individuals in gaining a stronger understanding of four key areas of resilience including: (1) relationships; (2) internal beliefs; (3) initiative; and (4) self-control. Once an individual has the opportunity to reflect on their personal strengths, a process to identify goals and strategies is put into place.

This session will provide a basic understanding of the science behind resilience and its connection to the overall health and happiness of employees. Participants will then be introduced and provided with the time to complete the Devereux’s self-reflective resilience assessments including the Devereux Adult Resilient Survey (DARS) and the Devereux Resilient Leadership Survey (DERLS). This self-reflective exercise will be followed by opportunities to create resilience-building plans both individually and within groups.

Approved for 1.25 SHRM PDC's and 1.25 General (HRCI) Credits
