ALWAYS BE READY: CHANGE IS INEVITABLE IN LIFE AND IN YOUR CAREER

    Program

Change is inevitable in our lives and our careers. As talent development professionals, we train others on managing change and being prepared, yet we do not take these steps for ourselves. We can be ready for the various changes that will affect our careers by preparing for them in advance and always challenging ourselves to grow. During this session we will focus on two main themes: how to successfully navigate through change and the specific ways to be ready for the career changes we may experience.First we will dive into how we view change; characteristics and behaviors we can develop to navigate that change well; specific things we can do to navigate change; and an understanding of how we move through the various stages of change.Next we will focus on some specific career changes that will most likely come our way so that we can develop a game plan to deal with them before they occur. Possible scenarios include managerial changes, role changes, layoffs and terminations, mergers, promotions, new employment, and so on.Participants will leave with an action plan to help them become even more resilient as these changes occur. After participating in this course, learners will:

    • Discover how they think and feel about change and how that affects their careers.
    • Develop game plans to be ready for some of the changes that will occur throughout their careers.
    • Create a specific action plan for what and how they will apply from this session.

    13th Annual PSPS Leadership Forum

    Amy Edmondson

'Building Fearless Organizations for Learning, Innovation & Growth'

With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talent—but what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of “fitting in” and “going along” spells doom in the knowledge economy. Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule or intimidate. In our upcoming October Leadership Forum, Amy C. Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at the Harvard Business School, will discuss Fearless Organizations and how Psychological Safety must be a part of a company’s culture to be successful in the modern world. Amy will offer us practical ideas about building a culture that promotes safety and allows individuals to express their opinions to encourage learning, innovation and growth.

Amy studies teaming, psychological safety, and leadership, and her articles have been published in numerous academic and management outlets, including Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Harvard Business Review and California Management Review. Her books – Teaming: How organizations learn, innovate and compete in the knowledge economy (Jossey-Bass, 2012), Teaming to Innovate (Jossey-Bass, 2013) and Extreme Teaming (Emerald, 2017) – explore teamwork in dynamic organizational environments. In Building the future: Big teaming for audacious innovation (Berrett-Koehler, 2016), she examines the challenges and opportunities of teaming across industries to build smart cities. Her new book, The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation and Growth (Wiley, 2018), offers a practical guide for organizations serious about success in the modern economy.

What can achieve a 23,900% increase in the attention span of a squirrel? An acorn!

The goal of any communication is no longer simply to inform. In today’s short attention span world, information is the enemy. Facts and information simply no longer have value because they are no longer scarce. To be able to persuade, we need to do more than just show and tell. We need to connect, make it relevant, make it stick and take action. The ACORN Communication Strategy helps to do just that. Once the content is understood, we must make the communication of it more strategic so that we can meet our goals. Knowing the content is only the first step. Through this presentation, we will present the communication strategy as a toolbox to enhance any message. As a result of these tools participants will be able deliver their message more effectively to any audience in a variety of situations.
