Go ahead go and find a hotter buzzword in the L&D industry over the past few years. We dare you. You won't find many. In fact, you'd be lucky to find half a dozen more talked about trends in our industry. What are we referring to you ask? Microlearning. Join L&D Philadelphia and New York Based Alex Khurgin for an interactive session on designing and developing "microlearning". Alex will share insights and help you understand the basics and develop a game plan for when and where to implement this "tiny" strategy.

The modern employee has 1% of their week to focus on training. What can we do with that roughly 24 minutes a week? Turns out, a lot. Armed with digestible and easily accessible micro-learning experiences, we can create meaningful changes in behavior across our organizations.

Participants will come away from this session having learned a step-by-step process for creating effective micro-learning experiences.

More specifically, they will learn to:

    - build a business case for micro-learning

    - create micro-learning experiences that capture and keep attention

    - launch spaced-out micro-learning campaigns to make learning stick

Alex Khurgin is the founder of Point of Need Solutions, where he helps leading organizations build modern learning cultures. For 7 years, he led learning innovation at Grovo, a microlearning provider. Prior to that he was one of the first employees working on adaptive learning technology at Knewton. Alex's background in philosophy, specifically the philosophy of mind and how human beings perceive the world, makes him passionate about using technology and new approaches to help people learn better and faster. He has presented on the future of learning, technology, and work to audiences from San Francisco to Shenzhen.

    Mindful Leadership

    Event Details:

    Thursday, March 15, 2018

    5:30pm-8:00pm

MEA, 234 Mall Blvd., King of Prussia, PA

    Program Description:

    TODAY’S WORLD

We live and work in a new world that is hyper-connected, fast changing, and shaped by VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity). Constant distractions and information overload make it more difficult for people to remain focused and engaged at work. VUCA creates stress. Plus, there is an emerging trend of employees looking for meaning, connection and happiness at work.

Today’s workplace calls for people that have highly focused and clear minds; those who are adaptable, resilient in the face of challenges and can lead with emotional intelligence.

Mindful Leadership programs are designed to help people achieve precisely that – acquire skills to become more effective and focused at work. The benefits of mindfulness programs are concrete and tangible according to both scientists and business leaders; they include stronger performance, better leadership and improved overall wellbeing.

    About Our Speaker:

    Orly Maravankin, PhD

Orly is an executive coach and a consultant. She works with both for-profit and nonprofit companies to help them thrive in the work environment today and lead with purpose. Orly holds a Ph.D. in psychology, an ICF executive coaching accreditation and is certified as a mindfulness meditation teacher.

Orly brings 20 years of experience in business and leadership, along with expertise in Neuroscience (Brain-based coaching), Mindfulness and Behavioral Change. Her experience includes executive roles at a large global consulting firm where she served as a senior leader and a trusted advisor to Fortune 100 companies on brand and innovation strategies. She speaks and writes about topics ranging from Business Insights to Leadership to Mindfulness and is an official member of the Forbes Coaches Council.

Orly’s own experiences allow her to understand the unique pressures and challenges leaders face today and she designed the mindfulness leadership programs with that in mind.

If you’re looking to refresh your strategies for supporting L&D, design thinking may provide just the infusion of energy that you need. Design thinking is what we DO as designers and strategists; and there are practices honed in the design thinking movement that can reenergize your creativity and enable you to craft novel solutions.

In this fast-paced, interactive workshop, you’ll get a chance to play with the tools and techniques of design thinking and experience how they can invigorate your work. You’ll see how design thinking is more than a toolkit, though – it’s a mindset that can transform how you design and facilitate, and it’s an approach that improves the quality of your outputs. The workshop will help you to rediscover the joy of design.

Through this workshop, you’ll be able to:

    • Transform your approach to assessment with empathizing
    • Generate and play with ideas to produce unique recommendations
    • Use rapid prototyping and iterating to hone your solutions
    • More deeply integrate design thinking into your standard processes

The facilitators, who have each been writing, conducting, and evaluating surveys for over a dozen years, will take a deep dive into the ins and outs of engagement surveys, pulse surveys, 360 feedback surveys, retention interviews, and exit interviews. Participants will explore options regarding survey timing, question types, and survey administration. She has applied the hands-on experiences garnered along the way to help organizations improve the employment experience through initiatives that focus on retention, productivity, and profitability. When restaurant clients left the industry, she opened a sister company Combined Resource Solutions, Inc., which provides surveys, training and consulting to a variety of industries. Under Morreen’s leadership the CRS team was recognized as a Philly 100 Winner in 2016 and 2017 by the Entrepreneur’s Forum of Philadelphia and the Wharton Small Business program, and Morreen was a recipient of the 2017 Enterprising Women of the Year Award.

Christin Smith Myers, Chief Operating Officer of CRS, Inc., has been consulting with regional and national firms since 2001. Join L&D Philadelphia & the Meet the Author Series run by local training guru Theresa Hummel-Krallinger for her monthly "Meet the Author" at the Pyramid Club of Philadelphia. This month, David Bookbiner, will join us for a discussion & meet & greet on his book - the NEW ROI (Return on Individuals). More information to come soon!

Ask anyone from the CEO to the shipping clerk about the organization's most valuable asset, and you'll get the same answer: "The people!" However, when it comes to the valuation of that organization, especially in terms of intangible assets, items like patents and trademarks wind up seeming to be more valuable. How can that be? Simple: They're more quantifiable.

In The NEW ROI: Return on Individuals, David delves into placing a more quantifiable value on the human capital asset - the most valuable asset in every organization. Additionally, he explores universal ways to promote even greater workforce value including creating difference makers, increasing employee success, improving happiness, reducing toxic employees, generating innovation by building trust, embracing and improving corporate culture, and much more.
