    Lead the Way:

    How to Transform Workplace Culture

    and Conquer Low Engagement Rates

    Event Details:

    Tuesday, June 26, 2018

    5:30pm-8:00pm

MEA, 234 Mall Blvd., King of Prussia, PA

    Program Description:

Nearly 90% of workers interviewed admitted that they were not excited about their careers. Organizational leaders aren’t too far behind at 80%.

    Do you know why?

The main reason is plain and simple: a lack of purpose and passion in the workplace. A rigid separation exists between one’s personal and professional life.

Concerned leaders have employed a variety of techniques in attempts to motivate their team members. Such strategies have given us decent results, but not nearly the transformational change needed to maximize workplace performance. These approaches almost always operate from the outside in.

Thankfully, there is a better way to transform workplace culture and conquer low engagement rates once and for all – a way that empowers leaders to inspire and invigorate their teams rather than trying to squeeze productivity out of them. It's starts with YOU.

During this passionate and practical talk, International Speaker and Best-selling Author, Robb Holman, and will unveil some of his proven Inside Out Leadership principles to help you lead the way!

    Rob Holman

    "Gender Smart Selling:

Insights to Smarter Sales Messaging to Men and to Women"

    Event Details:

    Sponsored By:

    The Women's Network

    Wednesday, June 27, 2018

    6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    Program Description:

We all know men and women think differently. Been there, heard that.

BUT, have you heard the actual physical science that has identified reasons why women and men think and react the way they do?

Join us on June 12th at 6:00 pm for an eye-opening program. Four of your Beacon colleagues will bring you fresh insights about the workings of the male and female brains, how they perceive and process information, and what selling approaches make better sense for each gender.

    · Did you know that women’s brains have 10x the amount of white matter as do men’s?

    · Better yet, do you know why “white matter matters” when you’re designing a website?

    · How about how the male brain processes data?

    · Do you know the best way to lay out data for a man so it drives a purchase decision?

Answers to these questions – and more – are part of our conversation on June 12th. And rest assured, it will be an interactive conversation, not us talking at you for 2 hours!

You’ll also work with the people at your table on exercises that apply the concepts we’re presenting. By the time you go home, you’ll have hands-on practice with these new ideas for understanding and connecting with your target audience.

AND IF YOU ARE IN TRANSITION – join us! Networking and interviewing are just different forms of selling. What you learn here could help you connect with your next interviewer more effectively.

REGISTER NOW! We’ll be at the Great American Pub in Conshohocken. Their meeting area upstairs is awesome. We’ll have time for networking, good food and drink, and then we’ll move to the program itself.

As the war for talent rages on, the talent development landscape continues to shift under our feet and L&D professionals are being asked to play a more strategic role in the fight to attract, retain, and grow talent. Market disruptions, generational differences, AI, robotics, AR/VR, changing consumer tastes, low unemployment, the gig economy, and a host of other trends contribute to the chaotic pace of change. It can be difficult to know what works anymore.

That’s why we’re going to ask a panel of innovative L&D leaders what solutions they’re employing to tackle today’s talent development challenges.

    • Emma Engel, Chief Learning Officer, Unisys University
    • Eric Brand, Senior Director of Training, Endo Pharmaceuticals
    • Karen Clay Basile, Chief Learning Officer, Johnson Controls
    • Susan Gunn, Exec. Director, People Advisory Services, EY (formerly, SVP, Aramark)

Longtime talent and organizational development consultant Gus Prestera will be the moderator for this panel discussion, which is co-hosted by Philly L&D and Beacon.

What will you get out of it?

This is no academic affair: you will walk away with practical strategies, tactics, technologies, and ideas for dealing with a range talent development challenges, including:

    • Given the pace of hiring, how do we best onboard people into new positions?
    • How do we optimize individual and team performance?
    • How do we promote retention through professional development?
    • Given the frequency of organizational changes, how do we build greater change resilience?
    • How do we identify and grow superheroes internally and enable their rise through the leadership ranks?

Plus, you’ll have a great time networking with colleagues, and maybe you’ll even bask in the victory of winning a door prize. What else could you want for a Wednesday morning?!

Join us as the leading edge meets today’s realities; bring your questions and your energy; don’t miss out on the opportunity to hear what approaches these innovative L&D leaders are using to drive results for their organizations.

Join the DE SHRM Chapter on August 14, 2018 at 5:30 pm for a dinner presentation by David Horning on "Transforming your Mission." Approved for 1.24 SHRM & HRCI Certification Credits!

    Program Description:

According to a 2016 Gallup poll, only 1/3 of Americans report being engaged by their work, a problem that’s holding back innovation and growth. According to Harvard behavioral researcher David Perkins, 90% of our thinking errors are errors of perception. Part TED Talk and part Saturday Night Live, discover why people do what they do, and learn to use perception to transform problems into opportunities, conflicts into relationships, and work into a meaningful mission to engage you and your team.

Because of the low engagement rate of employees and the relative complacency of modern business culture, this presentation is meant to use humor and audience engagement to disrupt the plague of skillset over mindset when it comes to work. With simple psychological shifts based on perspective, professionals can transform routine, unfulfilling work into an engaging mission that serves themselves, their teams, their organizations and their workplace cultures, and their communities. Not only does this shift boost morale, but it improves performance and leads to long term gains in revenue, goal achievement, and productivity.

    Learning Objectives:

Transform problems into opportunities with an awareness of how perspective influences action

    • Create a self-assessment system for personal accountability by learning to ask the Power Questions and take action
    • Develop a meaningful personal and organizational mission centered around service
    • Learn skills to shift your perspective of others to build relationships out of conflicts
    • Boost morale, creativity, and community using the "Yes, and..." principle of improvisation

    About Our Speaker:

Originally from Akron, Ohio, in 2012, David Horning moved to New York City to study sketch comedy writing and improvisation. After developing 2 web series' and performing around the city, he produced "Laundry Day," a sketch comedy show featured at Carolines on Broadway in Times Square, which was selected as part of the 2014 New York Comedy Festival. Inspired by the power of laughter, David now uses fun characters, comedy sketches, and his trusty slideshows to entertain, educate, and inspire so that others may use the power of their thoughts to build a foundation for their lives.

Our passion is located at the intersection of our interests and talents, it fills a need, and is centered around giving to others. This revelation inspired me to return to the Northeast Ohio area in the fall of 2014. As an avid researcher of the practical impact of human behavior, self-development, leadership, management, and positive psychology, I saw an opportunity to use what I had learned to deliver a more meaningful message than just comedy. Seeing a need for perspective in the world, I decided to fuse motivational speaking and comedy together, and I have spoken for businesses, professional organizations, service clubs, college students and faculty, and convention audiences around the country. Being able to inspire laughter, empowerment, and growth inspires me to wake up each morning with one mission in mind: to inspire others to do the same.

    Panel

Dr. Brandi Baldwin-Rana- CEO of Millennial Ventures

Dr. Brandi Baldwin-rana is a Leadership Psychologist and serial entrepreneur. She leads the executive team at Millennial Ventures Holdings, sharing her philosophy on millennial engagement, leadership development, and a concept that she calls "career freedom". Dr. Brandi is tapped by organizations like Comcast, Discover, and the Federal Government to provide her unconventional insights on creating inclusive workplaces, attracting and retaining millennial talent, teaching HR leaders to think like business leaders. She has been highlighted in the Philadelphia Business Journal's "People on the Move" campaign, and was appointed to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney's Millennial Advisory Commission in 2017.

John Shimp - Private Wealth Advisor and Managing Director - RidgePoint Financial

John J. Shimp, CFP®, CRPC®, APMA®, CDFA™, CLTC, CFS is a Private Wealth Advisor and Managing Partner of RidgePoint Financial Partners™, a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. He began his career over 16 years ago as an employee advisor, promoted to district manager and since 2007 an independent franchisee of Ameriprise. His business was built organically and he now helps lead a branded team of ten financial advisors and eight support staff. They collectively manage and/or advise nearly $1B of client assets. He is Life Member of the National Eagle Scout Association, active volunteer for various organizations, St. Joseph St. Robert School Advisory Board (Current Chairman), Boy Scouts of America, Cub Pack 318 Committee Chair, and spent over 21 years on the board of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia (Former Vice Chair). A Philadelphia native and proud alum of St. Joseph’s University, Shimp now resides in Bucks County with his wife, Carolyn, and two children, Connor and Kelsey.

Liz Nover - ID Specialist & Contractor to the Stars

Liz Nover is a lifelong educator who made the transition to workplace learning. This was a subtle career shift in her opinion, but it was difficult to convince prospective employers that she had the skills and mindset they required. Starting from a return to school, involvement in professional associations, and a graduate student internship at age 51, she assumed progressively more responsible contract roles in Instructional Design, and has gradually built her credibility in the field. Liz will share the highlights of her path, and the challenges and joys (yes, there are some!) of consulting.

Join L&D Philadelphia & the Meet the Author Series run by local training guru Theresa Hummel-Krallinger for her monthly "Meet the Author" at the Pyramid Club of Philadelphia. This month, David Bookbiner, will join us for a discussion & meet & greet on his book - the NEW ROI (Return on Individuals). More information to come soon!

Ask anyone from the CEO to the shipping clerk about the organization's most valuable asset, and you'll get the same answer: "The people!" However, when it comes to the valuation of that organization, especially in terms of intangible assets, items like patents and trademarks wind up seeming to be more valuable. How can that be? Simple: They're more quantifiable.

In The NEW ROI: Return on Individuals, David delves into placing a more quantifiable value on the human capital asset - the most valuable asset in every organization. Additionally, he explores universal ways to promote even greater workforce value including creating difference makers, increasing employee success, improving happiness, reducing toxic employees, generating innovation by building trust, embracing and improving corporate culture, and much more.

Moment of Truth: Not all business professionals get access to unlimited budgets. Okay, no one really does. Somewhere, sometime, we all end up searching for a tool or resource to help us get the job done. Not all tools, though, bring the same value. And every job requires a different tool or toolkit. So where can we find the best free or low-cost resources to help us achieve our goals? Well, we could spend countless hours searching on the internet. Or posting in vein on LinkedIn. But wouldn't it be awesome to find things from our peers - to hear and see what others use when their budgets run dry?

Join the Learning & Development professionals for this one of a kind event in November. Open mic time! Bring your favorite tool(s) and get 5-7 minutes to talk about it in front of your peers, showcasing how it works and how it helps you claim "mission accomplished". Topics include:

    • Project Management Tools
    • Timelines
    • e-Learning Development Tools
    • Other development tools
    • Audio/Video editing
    • Text to speech tools
    • Stock - Photos, Video, Sound, etc -
    • Budget & project tracking
    • Other ideas?

Everyone who registers and wants to demo a product - please contact us at info@ldphilly.com We'll provide you with a rubric to follow so you stay within your allotted time and provide the most value to your peers as you demonstrate your wares.
