The People Power Summit is America's fastest growing millennial leadership conference of its kind. Hosted by the Center for Millennial Engagement, this full-day event connects millennial leaders with career coaches, HR experts, millennial influencers, and "Power Players" to accelerate their development and impact their performance in today's workplace.

Think about it. Does your company actively and purposefully develop their millennial employees? Not all of them? Okay,  but what about the high performers?

Less than 15% of U.S. Companies have consistent learning and development programs for their millennial leaders. With 10,000 Baby Boomers retiring each day, there is a growing leadership talent gap in today's workforce. Our summit is tackling that problem one city at a time.

Having a high performance culture and an organization’s ability to achieve its strategy, go hand in hand. Organizations that take the time to be intentional about defining who they are, and which behaviors matter most, are primed for top performance in the market. Such organizations are staffed not only by high performing leaders, but by highly capable employees throughout the enterprise who embrace the defined cultural norms. These cultural norms ensure that employees are moving in the right direction, and that clients, customers, and other stakeholders, experience all that a powerful culture has to offer.

How have high performing organizations developed strong cultures, which enable their strategies to come to fruition? What have these organizations (business and HR leaders) done to ensure that employees at every level within the enterprise, embrace a high performance culture? This event kicks off with a case study of how UnitedHealthcare has built a culture with shared values that delivered on both the mission and the financial objectives of its business. Attendees will learn about:

    • Using a culture value lens to solve business challenges
    • Keys to successfully shift corporate culture
    • The importance of a common language and culture shaping tools and approaches

The case study will be followed by a panel discussion with C-Suite leaders which will take a deeper dive into this topic, provide best practices and allow for audience Q&A.

    DRAW it OUT!

    the curious art of visual

    communication + facilitation,

    a 2 day learning experience

Curiosity is a great place to start when you're looking to include visuals in your work! This training gives you space to play with your serious work. It allows you to see in ways that just might help your thinking explode out of its normal thinking box. It's okay to admit it. We all have our own default way of thinking and as scary as it can be when that thinking expands a bit, it can also be incredibly liberating. Imagine that!

Beginners and intermediates will practice elements of communication and design, graphic recording and visual facilitation in our experiential learning process. Whether you work in a corporate, non-profit, academic or community environment, you will find these skills applicable. No prior drawing experience necessary.

Essentially, we're going to practice using visuals to solve problems and bring people together

Something remarkable happens when we spend time learning hands-on with folks from other industries - when we cross-pollinate ideas and experiment with visual techniques to make them directly applicable to the big picture as well as how you do your part. You'll engage differently and the visual will help you see blind spots you may not usually see. Whether you spend much of your time in a corner office, a conference room, a classroom or on the streets organizing, you'll build and expand your own visual language in a way that fits your working style.

Here’s what you can expect to get from the training:

    * Reflect upon your current communication strategies

    * Create visual intentions for your work throughout the training and beyond

    * Experience graphic recording and graphic facilitation in action, recognizing their differences

    * Learn concrete drawing techniques to build your visual library

    * Participate in visual exercises that you can later apply in your own way

    * Practice listening & filtering conversations to pick out the content for recording

    * Begin to practice graphic recording in real-time

    * Reflection time to help process your learning

    * Plan your individual visual project or strategy going forward

    * Learn ways to use a variety of visual tools and techniques in facilitation

    * Receive feedback about your graphic recording/visual strategies

    * Learn logistical tips and tricks for setting up your space for graphic recording/using visual strategies

It can be incredibly liberating to allow yourself to be creative!

Maybe you're looking to capture the essence of a conversation in real-time. Or you want to use drawing to clarify complexities within a system. Or you are upset with words and want to have a new kind of love affair. Hello, my new drawn world! Whatever your reason, jump in!

First, we plan to share a little background about the drivers that motivated us to invest in leadership development including vision of the President, the board, and rapidly changing demographics including an aging leadership group. We l engage participants in a group discussion: where they would look first to identify organizational needs and essential leadership competencies. We l share Devereux process; engaging the president, senior leaders and the board plus the CCL inventory. Next, we l describe how we started with very basic structure, then present our model today, more closely aligned with researched best practices. We l distribute a check-list on essential elements for successful leadership development programs such as top leadership support, integrated succession planning, knowledgeable change agents. Devereux examples will be shared.

Afterwards, we l lead a quick self-reflection writing exercise to help participants recognize some of the ways leaders can grow professionally outside of a classroom. We l also share Optimizing Your Experience, an element of the initial coaching provided to our developing leaders. We l provide examples of development strategies in use at Devereux including collaborative learning sessions, webinars, conference experiences, coaching and stretch assignments. Participants will be invited to share other strategies they may be using for their leadership development efforts. We l conduct a brief audience poll on how they might measure leadership growth & success plus share Devereux approach to measuring outcomes including goal tracking, rater feedback, stats on actual promotions. Finally, we will provide a short list of resources, adding to it with recommendations from the audience.

We don’t teach content; we teach people. That’s why it’s time to start focusing on context. People are drowning in all of the free content that is available since the Internet arrived in 1995. It’s time for an update: Make Training A Want To (Not A Have To) gives you the insight and tools to reverse engineer the ultimate training in order to facilitate learning experiences that create measurable results with your people and compelling reasons to apply the learning. This changes everything.

Today’s training has to be energizing, interactive, fun, and full of valuable content, too! But too many trainers still stand behind a podium—a 20th century practice. It’s time for an update: this experience gives you the insight and tools to help design trainings that create lasting impact with your learners. Content is the loser here; because it’s NOT about “what” people learn. This is about becoming a context expert. Discover training practices that go against standard practice.

You'll walk away with critical and practical strategies to change the learning dynamic:

    · Engage learners with our unique and highly-researched Learn-Say-Do-Reflect Model to increase engagement, retention, and fun.

    · Improve your training atmosphere, increase retention to 90%, and create a consistent system for all trainers and facilitators to do the same.

    · Be a part of the art and science to make training fun again.

    · Learn how to become a strategic partner and performance consultant for your organization, not just a trainer.

If you are tired or bored with ineffective training formats, attend this session to transform any training session into an easy-to-apply and unforgettable experience, which will make you look like a hero!

Join L&D Philadelphia & the Meet the Author Series run by local training guru Theresa Hummel-Krallinger for her monthly "Meet the Author" at the Pyramid Club of Philadelphia. This month, David Bookbiner, will join us for a discussion & meet & greet on his book - the NEW ROI (Return on Individuals). More information to come soon!

Ask anyone from the CEO to the shipping clerk about the organization's most valuable asset, and you'll get the same answer: "The people!" However, when it comes to the valuation of that organization, especially in terms of intangible assets, items like patents and trademarks wind up seeming to be more valuable. How can that be? Simple: They're more quantifiable.

In The NEW ROI: Return on Individuals, David delves into placing a more quantifiable value on the human capital asset - the most valuable asset in every organization. Additionally, he explores universal ways to promote even greater workforce value including creating difference makers, increasing employee success, improving happiness, reducing toxic employees, generating innovation by building trust, embracing and improving corporate culture, and much more.
